MELCHIOR’S MAGICAL MYSTERY QUEST by Nigel Forde
Performed in Fratton, Cowplain, Farlington, Paulsgrove, Botley, Emsworth, Hayling Island and Southsea, December 2007
This Christmas play tells the story of the three wise men, their not-so-wise servants, and a pretty dim camel Desmond (pictured, right, with Laura Newell as
servant Kash-Kash) as they trek across Persia and Palestine in search of the baby who might help to solve the mysteries of the universe. This fun-filled family
show was packed to the brim with songs, slapstick and something of the magic of the first Christmas.
It asked the vital questions: how did the wise men get their gold, frankincense
and myrrh through customs? What happened to the guests left behind at Melchior’s Midwinter Feast? And how did the experience of searching for the Messiah change them all?
This was the second time we had toured across the
Portsmouth area, performing in churches and community halls, with a Christmas play. The first time we did so was with Scrub That Manger!
Melchior’s Magical Mystery Quest was written by Nigel Forde of Riding Lights Theatre Company, one of our favourite authors.
